DISCIPLINE COUNTS

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

Real Madrid’s defensive midfielder Sami Khedira has said that the Spanish club need to have a disciplined approach in order to overturn a 4-1 deficit from the first leg. Real Madrid will be taking on Borussia Dortmund looking to qualify for the Champions League final against all the odds.

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski destroyed Real Madrid by scoring all four goals in the first leg. The away goal from Cristiano Ronaldo has given the Spanish club is like glimmer of hope, but Khedira has said that there is a mountain ahead of them in the hopes of reaching the final.

There is a real danger of both the Spanish clubs being knocked out of the competition after Barcelona suffered a 4-0 defeat in the first leg against German club Bayern Munich. Real Madrid will be facing Dortmund for the fourth time, as the two teams have already met in the group stages earlier in the season. Back then, it was the German team at the upper hand as well. Yet, Khedira is confident that Madrid will be able to progress if they manage to play with balance and patience. He has said that an early goal will help them give confidence that they can win the tie.

“It is important to score a goal early, but at the same time we can’t lose our head. We have to find a middle ground. The manager will prepare us very well for this game because an early goal for the opponent can increase the pressure even more. Therefore we need to pressure Dortmund up front but not from the first minute because the game last 90 minutes and we have already seen how quickly they can score one or more goals,” said Khedira ahead of the match.

The German international has been one of the important players for Madrid, and has been linked to Manchester United according to the man utd football news site.

BOSS CALLS FOR CAUTION

Friday, March 15th, 2013

The Celta Vigo manager Abel Resino has said that his team should be extremely cautious about attacking Real Madrid because the Spanish giants are extremely dangerous on the counter-attack. Real Madrid come into the match after having won the last five matches in all competitions.

Even more impressive is the fact that they have played against the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United in these five matches. Hence, they are the overwhelming favourites to get the three points during the weekend when they take on Celta Vigo, who were fighting against relegation. The team are currently 19th in the Spanish league table. (more…)

BACK ON TRACK

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

The German midfielder Sami Khedira has said that he feels that Real Madrid are back on track once again after managing a 5-0 victory over Valencia during the weekend. Despite having some of the best players in the world, Real Madrid have struggled for form and consistency in the first half of the season. This coupled with several rifts amongst the players and the manager has meant that they have fallen 18 points behind the leaders Barcelona at one stage. As a result of the 5-0 win over Valencia and the loss of Barcelona, they have closed the gap to 15 points.

Further, Real Madrid also remain unbeaten since their return from the winter break. This has led to the midfielder Sami Khedira stating that he feels that the club back on track. Even though the possibility of winning the league title looks to be beyond them, Real Madrid still have the opportunity to challenge in the European competitions like the Champions league. Khedira has accepted that the team has not been up until now, but the past few weeks has given the necessary confidence that they can finish the season on a positive note by winning a major trophy. Real are chasing their 10th European trophy.

“We had a difficult situation, we weren’t doing well, and we talked about it together and saw it was going badly. We’ve worked hard these past weeks and I think we’re moving in the right direction. We’re playing well, really tight, and I think it’s going to give us future results. We have to focus on tomorrow’s match and it doesn’t matter if we’ll play against Barcelona or Malaga. We’re in a good place and I think we can win and move on. We’ll talk about it when we have our spot in the next round,” said Khedira.

WE MUST FIGHT

Friday, December 21st, 2012

The Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has said that he wants his teammates to fight with fire when they take on Manchester City in the group stages of the Champions League. The club will be going into the match knowing that they can seal a place in the knockout stages of the competition quite comfortably, but they still will be hoping to qualify from the group as the winners. Qualifying from the group as the winners has its advantages because the second leg of the last 16 tie will be at home. For the second placed team from a group, the second leg will be away from home.

Sami Khedira has said that if Real Madrid managed to complete the double over the Premier league champions, then they have a real opportunity to qualify from the group as the winners. Hence, they should not let their heads fall for this match and fight with fire. The Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has increased the tension ahead of this match by saying that Manchester City will have no chance to qualify from the group after failing to take a victory in the first four matches of the group. They are in danger of not even qualifying for the Europa league, which is awarded to the third placed team.

“If we play a tight game, competing for every ball and trying to impose your style of play, I think we have a good chance. We must concentrate on trying to play our own way there, not letting ourselves to be influenced by the opponent’s style, but instead imposing our strength in attack. Each one of these players has too much quality for us to concentrate on just one of them,” said Khedira, who has also praised City by saying that they are one of the best in the world.

KHEDIRA HAILS OZIL

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

The Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has hailed his compatriot Mesut Ozil as one of the best in the world. Both the German internationals are currently playing for the Spanish club Real Madrid after having signed for them following the end of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Both have been extremely good in these two years under the management of the Portuguese José Mourinho. Even though Sami Khedira are still remains as one of the important players for Real Madrid, there have been a lot of doubts regarding the future of Mesut Ozil at the club. The playmaker has been criticised by José Mourinho indirectly for not concentrating on football.

The arrival of Luka Modric from Tottenham for around £ 30 million has only increased the competition for Mesut Ozil. Despite this, he is international teammates Sami Khedira is of the opinion that it will always be difficult to replace a player like Mesut Ozil because he is one of the best in the world. The 25-year-old has made an indifferent start to the new season, but has been figuring in José Mourinho’s plans more often than not recently. Meanwhile, Sami Khedira has suffered a major injury that will keep him out for a few weeks.

“He is one of the best players in the world now. He is among the very best in his position. He could still improve in certain aspects. He knows it, and I also tell him that sincerely as a friend. But I think that, with the quality he has, he is among the best in the world. Dortmund are a compact team, a block. They play at a great pace for the full 90 minutes and are very disciplined tactically,” said the Sami Khedira are ahead of the Champions League encounter with Borussia Dortmund.

KHEDIRA WANTS TO IMPROVE

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

The Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has said that he is looking to prove his worth with the Spanish club after they signed the Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien on a loan deal till the end of the season. Both Michael Essien and Sami Khedira will now be competing for places in the same position, which has raised the questions regarding the future of the German international at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, he has welcomed the addition of Michael Essien by saying that he is ready to fight for his place and show that he is worthy of playing for a club like Real Madrid.

Sami Khedira has been one of the best young players in the last few seasons. After coming to prominence in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he moved to the Spanish club Real Madrid and has been a first-team regular under the manager José Mourinho.  However, it is thought that the Portuguese manager is looking at having a different option in the midfield. The German international Sami Khedira, though, has said that he is a different player to Michael Essien, who is a replacement for the Frenchman Lassana Diarra. Lassana Diarra has recently signed for the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

“Lassana Diarra has been sold. You have not read much about that. The fact is we have had four or five defensive midfielders over the past few years. This year we have Xabi Alonso, Michael Essien and me. I want to try to exert more influence on the game and to make use of my attacking qualities. Those four goals last season were better than the zero goals I scored in my first season for Real, but I believe I have not reached the end of my development,” said Sami Khedira in an interview given to the kicker magazine.

KHEDIRA BACKS LOEW

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

There have been reports in the German media that the German national team has lost its faith in the manager Joachim Loew, but the Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has dismissed any suggestions that they have lost their faith in the manager.

Joachim Loew has been in charge of the German national team since the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He has done a stellar job in the eyes of many after getting the German national team to semifinals and finals of major competitions. However, he is yet to get them to a victory in these competitions, which have raised questions about his ability to handle ultimate pressure.

The German media recently said that the players have lost their faith in the manager and that it was the time for change just before the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, the 25-year-old Sami Khedira, who has risen to prominence under Joachim Loew, has said that he expects the former German national team assistant manager to be successful at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Sami Khedira has attributed the lack of experience within the current German team as the reason for their failure at the Euro 2012, in which they were knocked out in the semi-final stage.

“We are 100 per cent confident in him. We have no doubt because he is a competent coach. A trainer proves his worth by making risky decisions and no one can blame him for his starting line-up in the semi-final of the European Championship. We, the players, were the ones on the pitch. We had many chances to score before the Italians got their goal and should also not have been 2-0 down,” said Sami Khedira ahead of the friendly match for Germany. Germany will once again the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

BAYERN TARGET KHEDIRA

Friday, July 27th, 2012

As per the advice of the Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer, the club has decided to make an offer for the Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira. Bayern Munich managed to lose in all the three competitions they took part in last season. This coupled with the fact that they have now lost the Champions League title for the second time in three seasons after having come extremely close means that they are likely to invest heavily in the summer in order to strengthen the team. The Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has emerged as the real target for the German club, as they plot a way to bring him back to Germany.

The 25-year-old has been at the Santiago Bernabeu since 2010, but it is thought that he would be interested in the possibility of returning to Germany and playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world – Bayern Munich. He first came to light while playing for the German national team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Real Madrid then swiftly moving to secure his signature of the former Stuttgart midfielder. Sami Khedira is a player who can perform exceptionally well alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger due to his defensive side of the game.

It is thought that Bayern Munich are willing to offer the attacking midfielders position for Sami Khedira due to his importance with the German national team and also within the Real Madrid team. Even though Khedira is widely regarded to be a box to box player, it is thought that he would be interested to the possibility of joining Bayern Munich where he can play the attacking midfielders position. Khedira is one of the many German players who was exceptional at the Euro 2012 – a tournament that Spain managed to win ahead of Italy.

KHEDIRA: IGNORE LOSS

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has said that the German national team should not be paying too much of an attention to the shock 5-3 defeat they suffered at the hands of Switzerland in a friendly match before the Euro 2012.

Germany are expected to be one of the challenges for the title after they have finished in the top three positions in the last three major tournaments. They came extremely close to winning the Euro 2008 only to be denied by an excellent Spanish team, which has went on to win the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well. Due to the fact that Germany come into the Euro 2012 with a fully fit squad, they are expected to win the tournament itself.

However, they suffered a shock 5-3 defeat against Switzerland. Even though it was a friendly match, the German media (and the Tottenham news website) have been quick to jump on the fact that the team has conceded five goals against a mediocre Switzerland team. It has been a season of disappointment for German players, with Bayern Munich players being the most suffered. However, Sami Khedira is of the opinion that the national team has the quality to win a tough tournament like the Euro 2012.

“It was not a good game for us on Saturday but we should not go crazy. We should not ignore the result but we should equally not overestimate it. We can still win the tournament. The Bayern players were wounded but they are now full of anticipation for the tournament. They are fully focused. He laughs normally, he speaks normally, he is just normal,” said Sami Khedira after the 5-3 defeat to Switzerland.

Sami Khedira is expected to be one of the important members of the squad when national team manager Joachim Loew names his 23 man squad, as he is Germany’s midfield general like Cesc Fabregas is for Spain.

KHEDIRA WAS ON-SIDE

Saturday, May 12th, 2012

Former Spanish La Liga referee Raul Garcia de Loza has said that the opening goal scored by Sami Khedira in the latest El Clasico at the Camp Nou is not an offside goal. Sami Khedira managed to capitalise on the mistake by Barcelona captain Carlos Puyol to score the opening goal of the match, which also turned out to be the record goal for Real Madrid. It provided Real Madrid with the best opportunity to get three points from the match, as they continued to play on the counter-attack. Even though Barcelona equalised through Sanchez in the second half, Barcelona immediately lost the lead to a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Many have been saying that the goal scored by Sami Khedira in the first quarter of the match was extremely important in providing Real Madrid with the impetus and belief in the remaining minutes. However, there has also been a controversy surrounding a goal because it appears on the replays that Sami Khedira is an offside position when Carlos Puyol receives the ball. Raul Garcia de Loza was the referee of the Spanish league matches for almost 10 years from 1984 to 1994. He has said that the goal scored by Sami Khedira is perfect.

“In the first goal there was no foul by Pepe, nor was Khedira offside. He was played on by Adriano. Barcelona’s goal is legit, just like Ronaldo’s. There were no mistakes in the key plays. Undiano Mallenco officiated well tonight, he made no errors for most part. In the second half, there was the odd card misjudgment, but not in the most important phases of play. It was a game of high tension but he kept it under control. He deserves a good mark for his performance,” said the former referee regarding the goal by Khedira.
