Germany must improve

Tuesday, June 26th, 2018

Germany midfielder Sami Khedira stated that the national side must improve if they want to win their next game against Sweden. He said that the performance was not up to the standard and that each player will have to take their own responsibility in the next game.

He admitted that he did not have the best of games and he has vowed to come back stronger next time. Indeed Sami Khedira was replaced after 6o minutes and failed to make his presence count in the middle of the park.
Mexico completely dominated midfield during the game and the German midfielders were struggling to take control of the match. Sami Khedira was particularly at fault there when as a defensive midfielder he failed to break several counter-attacks from the Mexican.
The midfielder said that the team will have to improve collectively for the next game if they do not want to go out of the tournament at the group stage. He said that they have been preparing themselves well for this World Cup and that they will not give up without a fight.
He said that Mexico was a strong team and that they deserved to win the game. He admitted that Sweden will be another tough opponent and that they will have to be at their best if they want to get a result from this game.
Sami Khedira said this competition will be a tough one as all the other teams will want to beat the World Champions and that they will have to deal with this situation. He said that they will have to give 100% on the pitch and this is what they failed to do in the match against Mexico.
He said that against Sweden they will have no more excuses and that they will be going out if they are beaten again.

Sami Khedira was hurt by Real Madrid and will leave the Santiago Bernabeu

Tuesday, June 16th, 2015

Sami Khedira is not the most flashy or standout player in the world of football but nonetheless, his contributions cannot go unnoticed as the German midfielder is an experienced performer who can help out either in the defensive section of any team or the midfield department as well and most of his work usually goes unnoticed as he isn’t at the spotlight as much in comparison to other players.

The German midfielder has almost spent 5 years playing for Real Madrid with over 100 appearances having been made for the Spanish club and huge titles being secured along the way.

Even with all of the major pieces of silverware that Sami Khedira has helped Real Madrid in securing, it seems like the time that the German player spent at the Santiago Bernabeu was not as good as it seemed to be.

Khedira made a total of 11 league appearances for Real Madrid in this season and the German player said due to the things that have been going on recently with the club; it has affected him on a personal level.

The 2014 World Cup winner sustained an injury in this season which has left him out of action even after he was recovered and ready to play. Even when Khedira was prepared to play and fully healed from his injuries, he still had to settle with a place on the sidelines. (more…)

Italy boosted by Pirlo decision

Monday, September 29th, 2014

Italy have been boosted by the news that midfielder Andrea Pirlo will continue to play for the national team amid speculation that he was set to retire in order to focus on his club career. The 35-year-old has been the most important player for Italy in the last decade, as he has often been the creator of many things good in a team that has lacked quality up front since the retirement of Alessandro del Piero. Even though Italy were knocked out of the group stages in the World Cup 2014, Pirlo was one of the better players.

After recently bringing in Juventus manager Antonio Conte to replace Cesare Prandelli, Italy appear to have convinced Pirlo to stay on playing at the national team level. Conte has worked closely with Pirlo in the last three years, as the brilliance of the former AC Milan man has largely been responsible for Juventus winning three successive league titles. Pirlo is already one of the legends at the international fold after having made 112 appearances for the national team. He sits fourth in the list of all-time most appearance makers for the four-time World Cup winners. It remains to be seen if new Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri will be happy with this decision.

“I have been talking with (new Italy coach Antonio) Conte who asked me if I was ready to play again for the Azzurri and I told him that I was. It was a difficult decision to take. I had wanted to stop playing for the national side but he (Conte) took over and he asked me to lend a hand. I am happy to do that and we are hopeful we can achieve great things together,” said Pirlo, whose job now will be to get Italy to the Euro 2016. Conte began his regime with a 2-0 win over Netherlands in a friendly.
