HERTHA RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

German World Cup winner Sami Khedira was missing as Hertha Berlin returned to winning ways in the German Bundesliga over the weekend. Hertha Berlin had lost three of their last four games in the league before they played hosts to Champions League chasers Bayer Leverkusen. In the end, Hertha Berlin scored three first half goals to secure an impressive 3-0 win over their guests. The capital club scored an early goal through Deyovaisio Zeefulk. The Dutch player provided the opening goal inside four minutes before Martin Cunha added a second goal on 26 minutes. Jhon Cordoba wrapped up an emphatic victory for Hertha Berlin seven minutes later as they recovered from the last league defeat at Borussia Dortmund in style.

Sami Khedira was missing for the visit of Bayer Leverkusen due to a calf injury.  The German midfielder suffered the injury in a recent league game at VFL Wolfsburg, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for Hertha Berlin. Sami Khedira started the game before he was subbed off due to the injury on 54 minutes. Arsenal loanee Matteo Guendouzi came on for Sami Khedira for the remainder of the game. Frenchman Guendouzi is on loan at Hertha Berlin from Arsenal for this season having signed for them at the start of this campaign. Sami Khedira was making only his second start in that VFL Wolfsburg game following his transfer to the club last month. Sami Khedira joined Hertha Berlin as a free agent after his Juventus contract was cancelled. He had a few months left on his Juventus contract. In total, he has made four appearances for Hertha Berlin and he would be hoping to return to the team in time for the next league game at Union Berlin next month.
