Veteran German midfielder has been at Hertha Berlin in the top flight since the turn of the year having joined the capital club after his contract with Italian Serie A giants Juventus was cancelled. He had six months left on that Juve contract.

Hertha Berlin midfielder Khedira has battled with a lot of injuries in the last few years and he has made the decision to call it quit this summer at the age of 34. Since his move back to the German Bundesliga, Sami Khedira has played eight times for Hertha Berlin and none of those games was for the entire duration of ninety minutes.

Khedira made the announcement about his imminent retirement as he said that he would have loved to play in front of the fans once again especially with his brother Rani joining city rivals Union Berlin but the decision is a right one for the German World Cup winner.

The ex-Bayern Munich player also said it was an honour to play for some of the biggest clubs on the European football stage and that his final game as a professional football player would be on Saturday, the final day of the German Bundesliga for this season. His Hertha Berlin side has managed to ensure safety for another season ahead of the final game of the season against TSG Hoffenheim.

Apart from Bayern Munich and Juventus, Sami Khedira has also played for Spanish La Liga outfit Real Madrid during a hugely successful career. He won the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil with his country, Germany.
